Compazine (prochlorperazine) "I was given this for migraines. I was stationed in Hampton Roads, VA doing my time in the Navy. I had a TBI in Bahrain, and was sent to Virginia for various medical treatments. I had blackouts and severe migraines that made me see spots at least 3-5 times a week. It was pure hell so I thought. I would try to tolerate it the best I could, and I began frequenting the hospital where I received this drug. It took some time to figure out which drug I was having the horrendous side effects. Portsmouth Naval issued me a "cocktail" as they called it with this drug included. Over a few experiences with various doctors I figured out this drug was the culprit. This drug made me feel like something terrible was crawling under my skin. 6 hours of hell."

"I have cancer and have been going through chemotherapy. I was prescribed prochlorperazine to reduce the nausea related to the chemotherapy. For this purpose, the drug did work. I would become less nauseous after taking it. This drug did come with a hefty list of side effects. It gave me chest pains like heartburn and a feeling of anxiety. It reduced my feeling in my face to the point where it felt like I was wearing a mask. I also had a hard time falling asleep, and when I was asleep, I had very vivid, crazy nightmares."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "I am nine weeks pregnant and I went into the hospital last night with severe nausea and vomiting I hadn’t eaten anything for almost 3 days and was down 5 pounds. I was having a migraine from dehydration and they gave me IV Compazine and within four minutes I was feeling like I wanted step out of my own body, I had severe anxiety I felt like I wanted to rip out my IV and run home as fast as I could. I had this overwhelming sense of being so unbelievably uncomfortable that I couldn’t close my eyes because I was so panicky and so shaky so uncomfortable I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. I will absolutely never take this medication again it’s been almost 24 hours since that medication was given to me and I’m just now starting to feel back to my old self again needless to say I’m on Zofran now for my nausea and you couldn’t pay me to take Compazine again ."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "I was given compazine through the IV for nausea and vomiting while admitted. It was an absolute nightmare that still makes me feel pure fear when I think about it. I thought I was going to die. At first, my legs just felt restless which I thought I was just having some anxiety, but then it really hit. I couldn't get my body to cool down, I started vomiting, then lost control of my bowels in front of the nurses. This lasted over six hours until they finally gave me something that knocked me out until it was over. I thought I was going to die. It scared both my partner who was there and myself to the point that I am now scared to take anymore medications fearing a similar reaction. They should really warn people about this drug."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "This medication does help out a lot when you have nausea. I have taken a lot of different medications before and this is the first one in seven years that has actually worked for me. The only side effect that I get from it is being tired after taking it but it is so much better then being sick to my stomach."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "I went to the ER for stomach pains and nausea. I am allergic to so many pain medicines that there is little I can take. They gave me compazine and as they put it in my iv they told me it could cause severe anxiety in some people. Well I can tell you now, it was horrific. I have had one major panic attack in my life and this was 20 times worse. I started pulling off my clothes and ripped the iv out. They had to give me a big dose of Benedryl to "reverse" the effects. Please please think twice and consider other choices before taking this!"

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "I was suffering from unexplained nausea for about a year. I tried a host of other anti-nausea medications but nothing really seemed to be helping. My doctor gave my compazine, which helped my nausea but made me exhausted by the evening and caused me to burst into tears at least once a day. I stopped taking the medication because the side effects were too much for me to handle."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "Worse experience ever. I had been experiencing morning sickness and vomiting while pregnant and had gone to the ER . I had been given compazine through an IV along with some fluids. Within a short amount of time I felt awful, a tremendous amount of anxiety came over me where I could not relax or even think to the point of functioning. Felt like jumping out of my body. There must be some legal consequences and responsibility behind this medication and what it has caused. No one should have to go through this nor do I think it’s safe for anyone, especially while pregnant ."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "Do NOT use compazine!! I went to the ER for a severe migraine that lasted a week. They put me on Compazine and within just a few minutes I was shaking uncontrollably, couldn’t keep still, and had extreme anxiety like if I didn’t leave the hospital RIGHT AWAY my entire life would just go down the toilet. This was the only time I ever ripped out an IV. I called the nurse in and I could only mumble “oh god what did you do to me” over and over again. After some of these other reviews, I count myself lucky that my symptoms only lasted a single night and the migraine did go away. But still I will never take it again!"

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "Reading the effects some folks have had brings me right back to 1993. I was 2 months pregnant with my son, who is now 23. I was vomiting so badly and was given compazine as a suppository. It worked wonders for the first 2 days. My 3rd day was a trip to HELL! I was on the phone with my mom and my words started slurring. I then started having uncontrollable muscle spasms in my face. My upper and lower jaw started moving in opposite directions so severely that I had to hold my face in place screaming in pain! My husband had to rush me to the ER in the middle of a snow storm. It was a horrific experience and I can not believe that this drug still exists! I was told that compazine is used as a component in other drugs, BEWARE!"

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "Was given compazine for the first time in the ER. It was mixed in a cocktail for my headache. After 3 minutes I started feeling uneasy and I started to have a full in panic attack, I’ve never felt that in my life! I ripped my IV out of my arm and started kicking the walls and stomping , they thought I was insane! I told them it was the medicine , they didn’t do anything just released me and I felt like my skin was crawling for 3 days. Was the absolute worst experience of my whole life !"

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "I was talking to my sister about my bad reaction to a medication I took 15 years ago called Compazine. I took this prescribed medicine while at home. I remember my experience like it was yesterday. At first I felt a twitching in my jaws. All at once, my bottom jaw started going to the right, and my top jaw started going to the left. I could not stop it and I could not talk. In fact, my jaw felt like it was trying to break off my face. I remember the emotional and physical pain. Me and my husband were both crying, because we both didn't understand what was happening! My husband ended up taking me to another clinic, and they admitted me at once. So BEWARE! Just from talking - I found out this same medication hurt my sister just last year."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "I thought I had the flu so I went to the ER to get tested. It came back negative but since I had a migraine they gave me a “headache cocktail “ which my sister had a bad reaction to but I had forgotten (after all I had a migraine and couldn't think straight). I got the IV meds and one of them was Compazine.....the awful liquid itself. Immediately I had trouble getting comfortable and my throat felt like I had a shrunken airway but the doctors said it was just anxiety. So it’s 4 in the morning and I’m stumbling around the hospital waiting for my prescription and my step dad to come pick me up and I’m falling asleep any time I sit down. As soon as I got home I fell into bed and couldn’t sleep unless my legs were writhing around. Then I slept off and on for almost 20 hours. I sweated most of the medication out thank goodness but I’ve never had anything like it happen before. I was by myself and was terrified. Why is this medication even still given?!?!"

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "I went to the ER last night with nausea and vomiting. I was given zofran, but it had soon worn off. I told the doctor and he said he would give me something else. The nurse came in with the compazine. She gave it to me through my IV. Within minutes I started to feel really jittery and restless! I started to become anxious and fidgety, and I wanted to rip my IV out of my arm. The medicine worked for the nausea, but it's definitely not worth the side effects! It was the worst feeling ever!!! It has been 21 hours since and I still don't feel right. The symptoms have calmed down a lot but I'm still not 100%."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "I went to the ER with nausea, they gave me compazine immediately I felt hot and restless . I freaked out they moved me from the hallway to a room where I became restless and angry . My jaw locked up and I was shaking uncontrollably, my heart raced and I felt like I was gonna die. My symptoms lessened after about 8hrs where I slept off and on. I went to a different ER and they gave me a small dose of Ativan but it didn’t make me feel any better. The next day I still feel panicky and my heart feels weird and the shaking comes and goes also have horrible diarrhea. Worst experience of my life."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "I went to the hospital due to a severe migraine and nausea. I was given compazine via I.V. Oh dear! I immediately began having chattering teeth, severe anxiety, and uncontrollable clenching of teeth. I also could not remain still, as if I wanted to get out of there as fast as I could. I called the nurse in and the response was oh, yeah you feel kinda outta of it? Well yes it will pass don't worry" ARE YOU SERIOUS RIGHT NOW! It's just by the grace of God that I got home safely. My teeth continued to chatter, and could not sit still! I had to go back to the ER to get medicine to counter the side effects. I feel a little better now. Day 2 and still feel out of it. I WILL NEVER TAKE compazine again!"

"I got TWO aural migraines in one day. I had never had nausea before from migraines, but all of a sudden I had nausea, dizziness, vomiting etc. My mum ran out to the chemist and got me these pills. Within half an hour, I was feeling so much better, it was unbelievable. It was my 21st party that night, and these pills saved me from missing out on the whole evening!! I've also taken one tonight to help with nausea and dizziness from new antidepressants and it has worked a charm."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "I took this during my first trimester of pregnancy for nausea. It worked wonders for about two days. On the third day I started to feel strange at work and took a break. My forehead and throat felt like they were tightening. I decided to go home and about halfway there I felt my jaw forcing itself to the left while my top teeth forcing to the right. I couldn’t control my face or tongue whatsoever. I should have went to the emergency room but instead I decided to call it a day and try to fall asleep. I didn’t fall asleep until 2am or so when the flexes in my face finally subsided. Strangest experience of my life. My neck and jaw were so sore for days afterwards."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "I was given compazine along with tramadol via IV at the ER to help treat a bad migraine. As soon as they put it in my IV I wanted to rip it out and leave. My mom was with me and I stayed a few more hours until my bloodwork came back. I finally got discharged and just wanted to go home and sleep but of course I couldn’t. I was jittery and shaky. I was pacing back and forth in my room. I couldn’t sit still. I can’t find the words to describe exactly what I felt but I basically felt so uncomfortable and like I was going insane at the same time. I went back and they gave me a Benadryl which did absolutely nothing. Luckily my mom had some left over lorazepam which finally gave me some relief and allowed me to sleep. It took 2 days for the worst of it to wear off but now 6 days later I still don’t feel 100% back to normal yet. I will never take this medication ever again and I hope it gets taken off the market soon. I hope no one else ever has to experience what I did."

"I feel obliged to leave a review after after all the negative reviews on here, thankfully I only found them after I had taken the medication, but it made for a very nervous first few hours whilst I was waiting for anything similar to happen to me. I am happy to say I had no negative side effects. I take the medication for Menieres when I get severe vertigo drop attacks and if I catch it earlier enough the pills stop me from going into full blown vertigo, room spinning and violently vomiting attacks. They also have a slight sedation effect on me so they help me to stay calm whilst waiting for the vertigo to subside and I end up having a good sleep after taking them. Its just a pity they take almost 30 minutes to start working because sometimes I don't always get early warning signs that the attack is going to happen. other than that, they are a godsend for me."

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "Worst medication! About 9 years ago when I was in high school I caught mono and was vomiting a few times when my mother took me to an ER/urgent care. They gave me an IV with compazine and a prescription for home. It wasn't until maybe the second day I couldn't move my muscles. I had ZERO movement to my body and could barely walk. Or get dressed. Nothing. I constantly shook like I was have a seizure. I couldn't sleep for an entire week! Let alone sit still. It was constant anxiety. It's like I lost all ability to relax. It was a living hell. When I went back to the urgent care the lady literally told me it was mono. I went home and continued to take this medication not knowing I had a severe allergic reaction. Finally went back again and got a doctor who actually knew what was going on! He told me to stop taking compazine ASAP. People get PERMANENT damage from this! It took over a month for this to leave my system and until this day the anxiety is still there."

Zofran stopped working for my hyperemesis gravidum...but I would rather live with nausea vomiting day in and out then feel the uncontrolled anxiety and restlessness I felt with compazine!"

Compazine (prochlorperazine) "I was first given Compazine orally for anxiety and nausea. It did not appear to have any side effects. A year later I was hospitalized following surgery and extremely nauseous so after giving me Zofran to no avail, they gave me Compazine IV. It burned going into my arm. I became very agitated and restless, my body could not stop shaking and I felt like I was going to jump out of my skin. Luckily, they gave me Benadryl and that helped calm me down a bit but it took a couple of days to feel myself again. Will never take IV again."

"I was prescribed 5mg prochloperazine tablets due to a stomach bug, which usually isn’t severe however I have an extremely weak immune system so the nausea caused by stomach flu is horrible. They seem to work pretty well and almost instantaneously. It seems to last only around 3 hours but it loses its maximum effectiveness after about 20-30 minutes and after the 3 hours is over I felt slightly more nauseous than normal for a few minutes but it was worth it. Overall, despite how scared I was after reading the other reviews, it worked pretty well."
