Does meclizine really work for dizziness, some say causes dizziness?

yes, why?

I have very bad inner ears problems and it has always helped me takes bout 15-20 minutes for it to start working. Of course since everyone is different it works for some and not for others!

It works amazing for me been on and off it for 5 years. Im on it now cause my vertigo was acting up bad so i have to take it every 6 hrs and this time around im real tired but last time i only took it as needed

I was prescribed antivert because I was extremely light-headed when I had the flu. It worked like a charm. My lightheadedness went away within an hour after taking it. I only took half of a pill of my recommended dose per day because I do not like taking medicine unless it is absolutely necessary.

meclizine does work but it can make you drowsy. It is used for vertigo as well as for nausea. I have had many ear infections as well as sinus infections and if you take the meclizine as soon as you notice that you might become dizzy it works best. If you have small children, be aware that you can get sleepy. It seems to have a calming effect on your system and helps get you to sleep, thus avoiding nausea and dizziness. I hope this helps.

I have taken meclizine twice - once in September, when I had my first episode of vertigo (or what we presume is vertigo... ). I woke up and could not get out of bed or sit up without feeling like I was going to pass out. Went to the ER and after they ruled out cardiac issues (4 hours of dizziness), they gave me 25 mg of meclizine. Within 20 minutes I was up and able to walk around. On 12/15/12 I had the same thing happen, couldn't get up out of bed, but it wasn't as severe. I keep meclizine on my nightstand and took it, with the same POSITIVE result. It made the spinning stop, but it did make me headachy and sleepy both times. Not sleepy enough to fall asleep, but as though my eyelids were heavy, and I did not feel comfortable driving either time. I'm glad that I have it, and now I've purchased OTC Bonine to take if I need it. (I do believe that I may have something sort of inner ear problem as well, so the meclizine is a blessing - it works very quickly.)

Yes, it can cause dizziness & drowniness which does seem odd when you take it for that reason. I hate to disagree with my friend Macintosh, but Anti-vert according to the to DC is the same medicine. See:

Hi Nicky, if meclizine doesn't work, ask for Anti-vert. It worked very well when I had pneumonia and an inner ear infection. I was crawling to the bathroom because if I stood up I would be spinning madly! But after a day on antivert I felt much better and could then walk (hugging the wall) to the bathroom.

It doesn't usually cause drowsiness. I don't know that it helps at all. I took it for a while for dizziness, but I never noticed any help. I finally just stopped taking it and waited out the reason I was dizzy.
